Parklands Photo Club
History of the Parklands Photo Club

The Parklands Photo Club was formed over 30 years ago, originally as The Royal Melbourne Zoo Camera Club, and originally membership was open only to employees of the Zoo, and the club met in the Education Resource Centre of the Zoo. In 1984, membership was opened to families of zoo employees, and Friends of the Zoo.

Due to copyright and intellectual property issues, the name of the club was changed to the Parkville Photographic Club in 1996, whilst continuing to use the Zoo facilities for meetings.

In late 2001, use of the Zoo facilities became unavailable, and the club meetings were moved to the Maurice Blackburn Room at the Coburg Library. At that time, as the club was no longer affiliated with the Parkville area, the members made the decision to rename the club The Parklands Photo Club.

The club held yearly interclub competitions with the Broadmeadows Camera Club, until its demise, and since 2003, has held a yearly interclub competition with the Preston Camera Club.

Now, in 2010, the club has an active and energetic membership, who continue to meet in the Maurice Blackburn Room at the Coburg Library on the third Thursday of each month.
